Quedgeley Wassailing

Although details of the Quedgeley wassail song have never been noted, we know of its presence there from an article [possibly in the Gloucestershire Echo in about 1990] .  The article quoted Mary Becall (1883-1966) from Quedgeley who remembered the wassailers visiting when she was a child, hence in about 1890:

“How quickly we children jumped out of bed when we heard them coming, and hastily donning a few clothes, rushed downstairs to see them!  They came dressed in smocks, and one man carried a small Christmas tree, decorated with balls and tinsel, and with a money box underneath. They would begin their singing with a greeting.”
