Eastington Wassail Song

Collected from Betty Aldridge by Roy Palmer, November 1990.

Eastington – A group used to black their faces and go wassailing with a bowl filled with flowers.  The song was also sung at Frampton on Severn.  The custom was extant in the 1880s.  You can hear Betty singing the song, learnt from her late husband, on the British Library Sound Archive. Betty talks about wassailing in Eastington here.
